February: Step 5

Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs

How It Works

This is perhaps difficult, especially discussing our defects with another person. We think we have done well enough in admitting these things to ourselves. There is doubt about that. In actual practice, we usually find a solitary self-appraisal insufficient. Many of us thought it necessary to go much further. We will be more reconciled to discussing ourselves with another person when we see good reasons why we should do so. The best reason first: If we skip this vital step, we may not overcome drinking. Time after time newcomers have tried to keep to themselves certain facts about their lives. Trying to avoid this humbling experience, they have turned to easier methods. Almost invariably they got drunk. Having persevered with the rest of the program, they wondered why they fell. We think the reason is that they never completed their housecleaning. They took inventory all right, but hung on to some of the worst items in stock. They only thought they had lost their egoism and fear; they only thought they had humbled themselves. But they had not learned enough of humility, fearlessness and honesty, in the sense we find it necessary, until they told someone else all their life story.

Welcome to Recovery In 2013

Lets start the years at, well let’s see, how about the Beginning.  In recovery we hit the rooms and we see the prayers well before we try the steps.
What is that about?

http://www.jcmyhp.org/video/theLordsPrayer.wmv”
Two prayers to start the month and the year:

A few prayers we Should neeeeeed to know early on in the program whether that be recovery or church.

God grant me the serenity  To accept the things I cannot change;  Courage to change the things I can;  And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;  Enjoying one moment at a time;  Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;   Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world  As it is, not as I would have it;  Trusting that He will make all things right  If I surrender to His Will;

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life  And supremely happy with Him  Forever and ever in the next.

Amen.

To open the year I’d like to look deeper into another prayer we take so for granted… we mouth the words, we puke them out many times with no real thought to what we just said.

Spend some time this morning considering this prayer from the message I put together about it!:

The Lord’s Prayer Words

Our Father, which art in heaven,  Hallowed be thy Name.  Thy Kingdom come.  Thy will be done in earth,  As it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses,  As we forgive them that trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation,  But deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom,

The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Amen.

So we all know it. We all say it at church or to close a AA meeting but what are we really saying? Spend the next 30 minutes with me as we look at exacly what we are saying when we PRAY this prayer.

Manuscript

You may not remember, but you asked. I did.  We all do. I hear it more than most other questions for people new to the faith.  I hear variations of the question.

People who have not been in the church or of faith.  They have many faces.

A man in a hospital with a wife close to death.  An addict lying in her own urine at the end of her rope with no place to go.  A child who ran away after taking the last beating he could stand. They all say “I don’t even know how to pray.”  What do I say?

The new Christian and the lost starving to connect.  They want to know, just as the disciplines did, how to pray.

Jesus held a class as described in Matthew and again in Luke.  He taught them.    “Prayer form” is what he taught.

These are instructions. Instructions on how to pray. A praying for Dummies if you will. Remember, Jesus was their Rabbi, which means Teacher! This was not necessary a prayer, it is meant to be “THE PRAYER” but the model for praying. Obviously, it can be prayed because billions have prayed it for a couple of thousand years.  But what does the Bible say?

. Pray ye therefore thus

So what does it Say?

First we get in Tune With God

OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN. HALLOWED BE THY NAME.

Our Father – Who?  Our Father! The Father in Heaven, These were Jews there is no doubt it is God the Only God.  If there was a question so far Jesus answers it here by then saying Hallowed be thy name.  What does that mean? Hallowed?  We see it in Exodus when God Tells Moses to take off his shoes he is on Hollowed ground.  We know that to be in in God’s presence then is Hollowed.  This is interchanged with Sacred or the word sanctified. Or HOLY!  It’s GOD! And even His Name is Holy and so when we say this it should be with Reverence! Hallowed be your Name.

Thy Kingdom come, the will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven

This next part is tricky. Thy Kingdom Come.

We get in agreement with God

Is he calling for God’s Kingdom or Looking forward till it comes. Both.  And while we are waiting we tell God that we will do on earth as it is done in Heaven.   WHAT???????  Hello this might be the biggest problem praying and amending(which mean so be it) a set prayer.

Let me see, is there anyone here Doing things at home like we even remotely you think  is being done in God’s ,heaven?  Not AT MY HOUSE. If fact if He comes back to day the Renfro have some explaining to do!

Whats Next

Let’s move on — Stay with me now….

Now we petition God for some Stuff

Give us our daily bread

.   We all know by now this is the word as well as the actual food. Sustain us.  The actual words used means give all we need for today. Reminiscent of the dessert crossing and the manta where God told them take Just enough for the day.  Notice Jesus is always staying n the present minute!  Give our Daily bread not this weeks groceries.  Elsewhere he tells us worrying.  He says the same thing worry about the today’s stuff tomorrow has enough worries of it own.

The We ask a two part conditional petition.

Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors

Here we ask for something and make a promise.  I know people today that have prayed this prayer today with in all Ernest that have no idea they just promised GOD that they were forgive all the people that they were made at!  YEP GOD we say please forgive us our sins, the things that made you mad at me and I am going to do the same thing in my life. And if I don’t?  We know God forgives us. We also know God has this really cool scale.  He lets us set the grade curve.  We see it when Jesus says you be you’ll be held accountable the same way you hold others accountable.  Like where bring our gifts to the alter he says if someone has something against YOU leave your gifts before the alter and go tot hem and fix it then come back and give your offering to GOD. Scary he is holding me to his standard by MY rules!    every word, SCRIPTURE and RED LETTER SCRIPTURE at that meaning, JESUS SAID IT!

Lastly we Ask GOD, for Guidance and Protection

And we Finish this as a circle by insuring we are in deed in tune with who HE IS.

Lead us Not into temptation, but deliver from Evil

God does not temp us. Satan Temps us as he did Christ. We ask God to lead us into temptation and to deliver us from the evil some texts say the evil one.  We get hooked up with some bad stuff in our lives bad people bad addictions, bad ideas.  They are from the evil one and we ask God to take us away from that.  To not turn us over to the evil one.  What?  Will God Give us up? No that is why we next ask DELIVER US FROM EVIL or the EVIL ONE! We know about Job but if we read in Romans it tells us at some point if we are following the wrong path and refuse to turn away He at some point will give us over to our evil desires….. So that we might self destruct but our souls should have hope….  Bigger

The Power and Glory Forever and Ever

And Now we come full Circle we again align yourself with the power of the Only One Powerful God the I AM of the Holy Bible. God by saying you are the Power and the Glory forever! we agree you are the ONE!

Then and just important we say Amen,

Amen.  Means We seal this with our agreement. The Bible tells we need to know what we are saying amen to.  If we are saying amen and not knowing we could be agreeing to some stuff we do not really agree too.  So make you Yes a yes when you say Amen.  AMEN?

Lets ask God for forgiveness for saying His prayer and for the POWER to PRAY his Prayer in the future. Let’s pray.

Thanks for being here. God Bless you
Dan R

Training that last a lifetime

Pastor Dan Renfro
I have been blessed to work for
companies that provide the best training from the top people in their fields. In
addition I have attended seminar after seminar, read all the books and been able
to TEST the programs in real life.
Following is a list of the trainings I
have taken and tested.
I am able to mold a program of coaching and or
training for you that will work because it is designed around these excellent
resources.

Ken Blanchard

In 1981, I
got out of the US Army and the I joined a company based in Houston, Tx. that was
using a new management training program led by a new comer on the leadership
training scene. The name of it was the “One Minute Manager” by the now
legendary Ken Blanchard.  I was lucky to be learning as this training was
being developed. In 2006
in Hollywood Florida attended a two day seminar with the Blanchard company on
Situational Leadership and again in 2007.  These seminars are now less than
$2000 for the day. I strongly suggest you attend one if you can.   Learn
More

Dr. Ken Blanchard is the cofounder and Chief Spiritual Officer
of The Ken Blanchard  Companies®, an international management training and
consulting firm that he and his wife, Margie Blanchard, began in 1979 in San
Diego, California. In addition to being a renowned speaker and consultant, Ken
also spends time as a visiting lecturer at his alma mater, Cornell University,
where he is a trustee emeritus of the Board of Trustees.

Patrick
Lencioni
Learn to Trust each other

The absolute nicest most sincere person I have ever seen
doing  training is Patrick Lencioni author of the “Five Dysfunctions
of Team
” book and program. He just cares about the people he is training and
about their success.  A man of faith and principles he gives a message of
practical application is a real and changing world. I have been to two
consultations sessions with Lencioni and have used the Five Dysfunctions with my
management teams for the past 3 years. Patrick Lencioni started The Table Group
in 1997 based on a principle he had been unconsciously developing since
childhood.  Growing up, Pat became fascinated with the world of work as he
listened to his dad describe the frustrating dysfunction and chaos within the
company where he worked for 40 years. Though he didn’t know it at the time, he
would eventually dedicate his career to helping organizations, and the people
who work within them, become healthier and more successful. Take some times to
look at all his books.

Jim Collins

Every manager in
business school has read his books. In 2003, I was in a room with 40 people as
Jim Collins told us about his life and his book that was turning two
years old that day.  He explained to us why good was the enemy of great.
Jim Collins was candid about his not so glorious childhood as well as his
very celebrated success’ with “Build to Last” and “Good to Great”.
He explained his books  had made so much money from helping others with this
book he was able to endow his own chair at the college where he does research.
Question and
answers time went a long while as you can imagine. Jim changed what business
people thought was ‘good enough’ in 2001 and revolutionized management training.
To learn these truths from the Jim’s own mouth was a priceless experience.
Built to Last, his previous top selling book was
  the defining
management study of the nineties, showed how great companies triumph over time
and how long-term sustained performance can be engineered into the DNA of an
enterprise from the very beginning. But what about the company that is not born
with great DNA? How can good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies
achieve enduring greatness?

Jeffrey Gitomer talks about what it’s all about; RINGING
THE REGISTER!

One of the
trainings I attended a few years ago  was the most intense most fun and the
easiest to implement came from the guy who wrote the “Sales Bible”.  Not
just Sales training but the WHY & HOW of SALES. Jeffrey Gitomer is
the kind of guy who while training the 700 managers in my group  walked up and
down the aisles, talking with, the people he is training instead of,
talking at them, from the stage.  Seven hundred managers is a LOT to try this
with but he did it and did it well. He was voted one of the most fun and most
easy to implement training by those same managers. AUTHOR. Jeffrey Gitomer is
the author of The New York Times best sellers The Sales Bible, The Little Red
Book of Selling, The Little Black Book of Connections, and The Little Gold Book
of YES! Attitude. All of his books have been number one best sellers on
Amazon.com, including Customer Satisfaction is Worthless, Customer Loyalty is
Priceless, The Patterson Principles of Selling, The Little Red Book of Sales
Answers, The Little Green Book of Getting Your Way, The Little Platinum Book of
Cha-Ching
!, and The Little Teal Book of Trust. Jeffrey’s books have sold
millions of copies worldwide. OVER 100 PRESENTATIONS A YEAR. Jeffrey gives
public and corporate seminars, runs annual sales meetings, and conducts live and
Internet training programs on selling, customer loyalty, and personal
development.

JCmyHP Training now has a suggested reading page.

Dan Renfro has attended, in person,
training sessions from the world’s best trainers

World Class Training from the top People in the the training
field.

THE CEO of JCmyHP, Pastor Dan Renfro says; “I have lived
every area I teach
“.  He continues,  While I
have read the books and been trained by the authors in these areas the
coaching you’ll receive
comes from those trainings and my experience, my winning experience. I have been
the top manager, trainer, sales person everywhere I have ever worked.
I have
been blessed to work for companies that provide the best training from the top
people in their fields. In addition I have attended seminar after seminar. This
page has descriptions of those trainings and trainers.

NON-Commissioned Sales! they said it could not be done, BUT we did
it!

NON-Commissioned Sales! In the early 90′s an unheard of
electronics’ company from Minnesota  with a few stores decided to go national.
Again I was lucky and blessed to be part of this expansion. Richard M. “Dick”
Schulze
the founder and CEO was large and in charge and went from a regional
player to the leading the largest Electronic Retailer in the world producing
44.5 Billion Dollars in revenues in 2008! As Best Buy developed the “how to” to
selling in a non commissioned world.

My
regional manager was Brian J. Dunn who is today the CEO of Best Buy.  Our region
led by Dunn was the best in the company.  Our District was the best in the
region and my store was the best in the district so my definition Best Buy was
the best in the world and my store was the best in Best Buy that made us the
BEST SALES TEAM IN THE WORLD!!!!.  Over the next few years my teams won
every contest and produced the highest gain over budget in revenues. We flat out
the most dollars in warranty sales in the companies history no matter what the
competing store size was.

Marcus Buckingham

Best Buy was a case
study for Marcus Buckingham while he was with the Gallop Organization and
he later became the featured Speaker and trainer for Best Buy for several years
after writing his first book “First Break all the Rules” which by the way
is a saying that goes back to 1994 at Best Buy. Best Buy  used to say about
conventional wisdom “If it ain’t broke, Break IT!“  Great Learning’s come
from breaking away from conventional wisdom ‘getting individual’ with people in
training and development. Marcus did coin the phrase that any intelligent
manager (there are many who are not) today will recognize “when he said you
must “TREAT PEOPLE DIFFERENTLY“. To do so you must know your employees and what motivates them.  I have been in
trainings with Buckingham with Best Buy and Barnes & Noble totaling five
times covering different books and all of his findings on how to help people
succeed on business and in life.  I strongly recommend all his books and
currently teach from them at every coaching session and seminar. We
must let people what they do best everyday!
